SolaRid™ harvests insects used as feed stock for Pasture Raised Poultry and Farm Raised Fish
Eighty percent of agricultural land is used to feed farmed animals. With rising populations, alternative sources of protein for animal feed is critical to global food security.
Each SolaRid™, in proper environments, regularly harvests 32 ounces of insects, protecting pollenating bees by only operating at night producing more than 20 ounces of protein each 24-hour period. Eighty percent of chickens’ production costs is feed.
Insects have a high fat, vitamin and mineral content and average 60% protein, comparable to fish or livestock - live local, are perfectly designed to satisfy poultry diets in pastures.
Live insects are more digestible than dry bag food with higher feed into body mass conversion (3:1), so, chickens mature faster with significantly stronger immune systems on diets supplemented with insect.
As a result, the feed-to-egg ratio is significantly reduced, increases egg fertility, hatchability and laying rates are also substantially higher.
While creating biomass in the soil of pastures, grass fed and hormone free poultry is cleaner and has a discernable better, natural flavor that is more nutritious with higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A and E.
The USDA lists insects as an underutilized source of protein for livestock, but also, sustainable aquaculture which produces more than half of the seafood consumed worldwide. Aquaculture is the most efficient method to convert feed to edible protein, for each 32 ounces of dry food, salmon grows 32 ounces of flesh (1:1).
Insects have a very limited environmental footprint and as a feed in aquaculture, insect oil possess a highly advantageous and very unique combination of healthy fatty acids (including omega 3), and unsaturated fat necessary to cultivate healthy fish with nutrients (oils), necessary for human consumption.
Reducing the protein deficit by rebalancing the supply will have positive, transformative effects on global economics of farms, food and feed.
